About This Product
This compass is used to find north and the other directions, to measure the magnetic azimuth of a ground target or a target on a map, and to orient a map. To sight a ground target, set the index triangle to 0, tilt the reflector about 45°, put your thumb in the lifting ring, aim at the target and read the bearing at the north end of the needle.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How do I find north? Open the compass and align the azimuth index triangle with 0, then turn the compass until the north end of the needle lines up with 0. The other directions can then be read on the orientation glass.
Q2. How do I orient a map with it? Set the index triangle to 0, lay the ruler edge along a true meridian on the map, and rotate the map until the north end of the needle points to the local magnetic declination value.
