About This Product
This compass is used to find north, take the magnetic azimuth of a ground target or of a target on a map, and orient a map to the ground. For a ground target, set the index triangle to 0, tilt the mirror about 45°, put your thumb in the ring, sight the target and read the bearing at the north end of the needle.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How do I find north? Open the compass and align the index triangle with 0, then turn the compass until the north end of the needle lines up with 0. East, south, west and north can then be read directly.
Q2. How do I orient a map with it? Set the index triangle to 0, lay the ruler edge along a true meridian on the map, and rotate the map until the north end of the needle points to the local magnetic declination value.
